The official Christmas Number 1 single has just been revealed as the not-very-festive Ava Max’s Sweet but Psycho, which has knocked Ariana Grande of the top spot in the official Irish chart.

Ava beat Ariana by just over 300 combined sales and is the first female solo artist to claim the Christmas Number 1 in Ireland in five years (the last was X Factor winner Sam Bailey with Skyscraper).

The Top 3 spots are inhabited by female artists, in fact, with Without Me by Halsey coming in third.

However, to find a festive hit we need to pop down to Number 7 in the Christmas chart where you might expect to find The Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl and ‘Fairytale of New York’ as the most popular Christmas hit.

Not so.  The most popular Christmas tune in Ireland right now is Mariah Carey’s ear-worm 'All I want for Christmas', with 'Fairytale' the second most popular at Number 9 in the Irish charts.

They’re just two of 15 Christmas tracks to feature in the Top 50 this week, mostly classics but with three modern additions courtesy of Ariana Grande, Sia, and Leona Lewis.  Here they are, with their Official Irish Chart positions:
